Minister of Defense Visits Mazeikiu Nafta

08 November 2001 , 10:12483
Lithuanian Minister of Defense Linas Linkevicius and Deputy Minister Povilas Malakauskas visited Mazeikiu Nafta today, meeting with company executives to discuss long term security issues and improved cooperation between the company and government institutions. The minister's visit was part of a string of visits to Lithuanian strategic companies, following the 11 September terrorist attacks on the United States.
According to Mazeikiu Nafta general director Jim Scheel, "This meeting was a good opportunity to familiarize officials from the Ministry of Defense with the steps Mazeikiu Nafta has taken to improve security and safety throughout its assets."
Mazeikiu Nafta recently reorganized its security service with the goal of increasing the overall efficiency of the company's security system. Minister Linkevicius was presented with measures and steps undertaken at the company to improve loss prevention, safety and work security and how this relates to the protection of Mazeikiu Nafta as a strategic asset.
"Mazeikiu Nafta has spent considerable energy and funds improving a variety of both internal and external security measures over the past two years. They range from improved leak detection equipment on our pipelines to new business contract approval procedures. Continued cooperation between Mazeikiu Nafta and a variety of Lithuanian security and law-enforcement bodies is one of the primary means to ensure stable operations at Mazeikiu Nafta and increase long term security throughout the region," said Scheel.
