Gas Company Killed People

04 March 2003 , 10:021945
Gas company Transco was guilty in killing four people who died in an explosion. Andrew Findlay, 34, and his wife Janette, 37, died with their children, Stacey, 13, and Daryl, 11, in the explosion at their home in Carlisle Road, Larkhall, on 22 December, 1999.

The prosecution of Transco, in the High Court, is being taken on an indictment with alternative charges - one of culpable homicide, and the other of contraventions of the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act. A conviction under either charge would expose Transco to an unlimited fine.

Transco insists that a charge of killing a couple and their two children is incompetent under Scots law.
