Automakers Make Records In Asia

21 April 2003 , 12:29440
Volkswagen, General Motors and other rival companies in China have sold a record amount of vehicles. It indicates that the situation on the world auto market is constantly improving.

Volkswagen sold 86% more units in the three months ended March 31, compared with a year earlier. General Motors?s sales rose 54%.

Automakers are investing in Chinese plants and rolling out new models to meet demand from increasingly affluent consumers in an economy that grew at the fastest pace in seven years in the first quarter.

Automakers eye the Chinese market in order to compensate the declining sales in Europe and the US.
