No new U.S. Fuel Taxes For Road Construction

07 May 2003 , 09:26339
The Bush administration made no proposal to increase fuel taxes in order to help financing its new $274 billion highway planes. The issue is to be discussed in Congress in the following days.

In the House of Representatives, the plan could face opposition as some lawmakers are considering increasing fuel taxes from 18 cents to 23 cents a gallon.

Instead of rising taxes, the government will encourage the private sector and the states to take a bigger role in financing highways.
