Four people were injured when an explosion blamed on a gas leak ripped through a two?story house in central Russia, the Emergency Situations Ministry said.

The blast in the village of Troitskoye in the Kalmykia region, about 750 miles south of Moscow, knocked out the building's windows and sparked a fire, said Andrei Rublyov, a ministry spokesman.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the explosion was caused by a gas leak, he said.

Natural gas explosions, caused by aging equipment and poor maintenance, occur frequently in Russia.
