OPEC Request Fell On Deaf Ears

17 June 2004 , 11:05462
Announcing it would lift oil output, OPEC called on other major oil producers outside the group such as Russia and Mexico to follow the lead.

OPEC has come to this decision in effort to make up for the lost crude exports from sabotaged pipelines in Iraq. However, Russia and Norway appear to decline the request, saying they could do little to help.

The director of Russia's Federal Energy Agency, Sergei Oganesyan said, ?We are working according to our own plan. We do not have taps that we can open or close. We are producing as much as we can."

OPEC president Purnomo Yusgiantoro is going to write a letter to the non-OPEC countries. ."I believe they still have spare capacity," he said.
